George Lovesmith


Reimagining buildings use, architect and educator, George Lovesmith shares insights from processes  developed through his working practice.


George Lovesmith is an architect, artist and educator whose practice focuses on social engagement. With an emphasis on strategic and participatory processes, his work supports public and cultural organisations (schools, art centres, volunteer groups), to reimagine their buildings for expanded social good.

Current projects include working with the Watershed Cinema and Pervasive Media Studio, Bristol on how to retrofit their buildings. Previous project examples, include the strategic co-production of Red Brick Field, a park in Plymouth and the remodelling of Maindee Library, which was closed by the local authority in 2015 and later reopened by a local volunteer collective Maindee Unlimited, who were determined to keep it open and alive as a community asset.

Over the last two decades, George’s work has been selected for numerous architecture exhibitions and show internationally (Brazil, Taiwan, Sengal, Finland, Norway and Austria). Alongside his professional practice, he holds the post of senior lecture at the University of the West of England, School of Architecture and Environment.
